COVID-19: More than 13,000 women report changes to periods after having vaccine but experts say fertility not affected

The number of women reporting changes to their menstrual cycle linked to having a COVID vaccine has risen to 13,000. The figure has increased from around 4,000 women last month.

Mass Protests in Greece in Response to Unvaccinated Being Banned From Social Life

Greece has become the latest European country to be hit with mass protests after the government announced the unvaccinated would be banned from visiting bars, restaurants, cinemas and other public places.
Thousands of demonstrators descended on Athens and Thessaloniki, with crowds chanting “Hands off our kids!” and holding signs that said “We say no to vaccine poison.”
All nursing home staff and hospital workers will be mandated to get the vaccine from August 16, while hospital workers also face losing their jobs unless they get the compulsory jab from September.

Vaxxed or Axed: Health Care Professionals Stuck With Difficult Choice
As the masks come off and the world moves into post-pandemic mode, employers are taking shots at employees who balk at getting the COVID-19 vaccine. From academic institutions to the travel industry to entertainment venues, those in control are telling both employees and consumers to get vaxxed or get axed.
That means some students won’t be allowed on university campuses until they break down and show their proof of vaccination papers. Airlines won’t hire new employees who aren’t vaccinated. And, certain Broadway plays will be off limits until attendees roll up their sleeves.
What’s most concerning, three critics from the University of Pennsylvania write in STAT News, is the number of health care workers who still haven’t gotten their vaccines — 17 million, to be exact. “It’s one thing for a retail worker not to get vaccinated. It’s unethical and appalling for a health care worker,” they write.
And, if it means getting axed for refusing the vax, the three have a message for reluctant-to-get-jabbed health care employees: Last month a federal judge effectively ruled that Houston Methodist’s vaxxed or axed policy is legal.

Do ‘Hypothetical Benefits to Adults’ Outweigh Risks to Children?

While the risk for severity and mortality of COVID-19 in children is very low, vaccine campaign proponents are now looking toward mass vaccinating children as a final effort to protect particularly vulnerable adults.
But is it worth it? Does whatever potential — and hypothetical — benefit to adults warrant vaccinating children against a disease that barely affects or harms them?
“Even if one assumes protection against severe covid-19, given its very low incidence in children, an extremely high number would need to be vaccinated in order to prevent one severe case,” a group of health professionals write in The BMJ.
If for no other reason, the ethics of vaccinating children to protect adults should be pause for thought. Should children be expected to carry this load and risk the possible harms, known or unknown, that could come from it? The authors say no — especially with no statistics on whether the mass vaccination of children has any impact on adult COVID cases, and no long-term evidence of efficacy and safety.

FAA fines passenger for not wearing mask aboard flight

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) fined a passenger more than $10,000 for refusing to wear a face mask. According to a July 6 press release by the agency, said passenger refused to wear the face covering properly over his face and mouth. The passenger was one of many instances of travelers penalized by the FAA from December 2020 until February 2021.
The FAA added that the passenger boarded an Allegiant Air flight on Feb. 27 from Provo, Utah. “Flight attendants instructed him seven separate times to wear his facemask properly, and each time he moved it off of his nose after the flight attendant walked away,” it said.

California mother calls out local officials over ‘unconstitutional’ restrictions on small businesses

The coronavirus is spreading in California — mostly among unvaccinated people. While cases and hospitalizations are still more than 93% lower than they were at the peak, new daily coronavirus cases have nearly tripled over the last month, from about 900 a day to more than 2,600 a day; hospitalizations have risen by nearly 75%, from 915 to 1,594.

Both experts and committee members from both parties expressed concerns about the current use of facial recognition technology, including its invasion of individual and community privacy, procurement of images without proper consent, and high misidentification rates of nonwhite individuals.
From its survey of 42 federal agencies that employ law enforcement officers, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that 20 federal agencies own systems with facial recognition technology or use systems owned by other entities. GAO Director Gretta Goodwin testified that these systems can contain millions or billions of photos.
