At times chuckling at his own message, Dr. Ralph Baric was filmed in 2014 and 2018 discussing virus weaponization and how to make money on a pandemic. Masks, for example, were money-makers in 1918 and they will be in the present, he says.
This is good news, he says, and “there are winners out there” if you want to make money during a pandemic. “Buy stock in Hazmat or protective clothing or companies that make antiviral drugs … There actually are mutual funds for pandemic preparedness. You can bet on anything in this country,” he laughs.
“Pandemics really are times for opportunity” for political, financial and personal gain, he adds.
Baric, a professor of epidemiology and microbiology who has spent years studying bat coronaviruses and gain-of-function possibilities on how to manipulate a virus to make it more dangerous, has received grant monies to study how to create a “new bat SARS-like virus … that can jump directly from its bat hosts to humans.”
